Thinking of making the switch to pouch underwear? I tested Saxx’s lineup of boxer briefs (as well as their lounge clothes) and are ready to report back on their quality.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall — no matter the season, a comfortable pair of underwear will keep you in good spirits.
And for folks of the male persuasion, comfort comes down to one major detail: Is your underwear doing a good job of supporting your family jewels, and keeping them separate from your thighs?
There’s a big market out there now for pouch underwear for guys, with new brands popping up seemingly every day. So I got my hands on a few pairs of Saxx’s underwear for this review and decided to test out some of their loungewear while I was at it.
The proof is in the pouch, so let’s get right into the details.
About Saxx
The Saxx story is pretty straightforward: They’re obsessed with your junk.
That’s not quite as weird as it sounds, though. Because behind the scenes, Saxx has put a huge amount of time, effort, testing, and development into making underwear with a 3D-sculpted pouch that minimizes skin-on-skin contact — and by extension, sweating and chafing in your downstairs situation.
What really makes Saxx unique, however, is the range of materials they have available to choose from.
Where most pouch underwear brands have one or two flagship choices in different lengths or styles of underwear, Saxx has a whole slew of materials and styles, each with its own best use.
And because of that material expertise, they’re also quite well positioned to make some darned comfy loungewear (which I also tried), but I’ll tell you more about that in a moment.
What I Tried
To get a real feel for the brand, I wanted to try out one of their most popular choices — a standby set of stretch cotton boxer briefs — as well as their loungewear gear. Let’s go into more detail on each of them below.
Non-Stop Stretch Cotton Boxer Briefs
I chose to test the Non-Stop Stretch Cotton Boxer Briefs because of the promise that Saxx makes for them: That they’re a perfect pair of everyday underwear that won’t “bag out,” i.e. get uncomfortably loose and stretchy over time.
After almost two months of testing and a half dozen wash cycles, these boxer briefs seem to live up to the hype. They’re still just as comfortable as the day I first tried them on, and their lightweight combed cotton jersey construction is perfect for everyday use.
3SixFive Lounge Hoodie and Lounge Pants
I was especially interested to test out Saxx’s loungewear line, though, because of their extreme attention to detail with their material selection.
Because, in our experience, finding good underwear isn’t particularly difficult, as it’s more a matter of trying on pairs until you find one you like; but loungewear is more expensive, and the fit and style can be harder to dial in.
The 3SixFive Lounge Hoodie and Pants from Saxx are really top-quality stuff. They’re so comfortable, in fact, that I’m wearing them right now while I’m writing this review.
The magic is in their material blend: 36% super soft modal, 56% breathable cotton, and 6% stretchy elastane.
Then, they’re given a flat seam construction for even more comfort, and a roomy (but not baggy) fit that’s great for around the house or quick trips out for errands.
They’re exceptionally well-made pieces of clothing, and we can strongly recommend them to any guy looking for lightweight, comfortable hoodies and pants.
Finding the Right Pair of Saxx Underwear
Our limited testing only scratches the surface of all the underwear styles that Saxx has available though. And really, you’re going to want to check out their website — particularly their interface for shopping for underwear.
In that, you’ll find that you can shop by style, activity, fabric, or collection. So no matter what preference you have — say, boxer briefs, underwear for sports, or a breathable material — you can hone in on the exact right pair for you.
It’s one of the best systems of organization we’ve seen for underwear, and that makes it easier to recommend to any guy looking for his perfect pair.
Saxx Pros and Cons
And here’s our top-level overview of the Saxx brand:
Saxx Pros
- Wide range of styles and materials to choose from
- Ball Park Pouch isn’t overly exaggerated — just the right amount of pouch and comfort
- Loungewear is as high quality as their underwear selection
- Excellent website interface for finding and buying underwear
Saxx Cons
- All their underwear has the Ball Park Pouch, so if you don’t like that you’re out of luck
- Many of their color/style choices are a little bit too bright and busy for my tastes
- A little bit pricey if you’re not buying multi-packs or finding them on sale
Overall, we recommend their products.
