Looking for an inexpensive beard trimmer? The Philips Norelco Multigroomer Series 3000 is a great option for you!
For the first 6 years of my adult life, growing a beard was out of the question. Not that I couldn’t physically sprout whiskers, but because of my work and university dress codes.
While somewhat apprehensive about growing a beard (in my sub-culture beards are still seen as “rebellious” by many), the first winter after graduating from college I decided to give the “fuzzy” look a chance.
I was pleasantly surprised by how I looked with a beard. However, after about a month and a half of growth, it started to look pretty shaggy. Although I got it trimmed once or twice by a barber, I shaved towards the end of that winter.
Last winter, however, I got a beard trimmer — the Philips Norelco Multigroomer Series 3000. With this tool, it’s been so much easier to maintain my beard!
Quick Take
At just over $20, the Series 3000 is a fantastic beard trimmer.
It has a long battery life, easy-to-use attachments, and performs well.
About Philips Norelco Multigroomer
This trimmer is meant to be an “all-in-one hair trimmer [that] gives you full-body coverage with just one tool.” In other words, it’s not just for trimming your beard.
Besides seven trimming guards ranging from 1mm to 16mm, it also has a nose hair trimmer and a small steel “detail blade” for precision cuts.
The blades and guards are rinseable, which makes for easy cleanup.
I also like that it comes with a small pouch for easy storage in a medicine cabinet or in luggage when traveling.
Philips Norelco Multigroomer Series 3000 Review
To be honest, at first I was a bit nervous about having humming, vibrating blades near my face.
At a barbershop, at least I know that the situation is largely out of my control and, hopefully, the guy or gal “shearing” my head knows what they’re doing.
This was different. Now it was up to me not to mess up and accidentally take off a chunk of my face.
Luckily, I had nothing to be afraid of. This trimmer is very safe and easy to use.
I started with longer-length attachments, slowly moving down until I reached my desired beard length.
Now that I’ve used the Series 3000 over dozens of times I feel that I’ve really gotten a hang of it.
Not only have I used it for trimming my beard, I’ve also used the tool to clean up the back of my neck between haircuts. That was a bit more of a tricky process, but I think it turned out well enough. (Much better than looking like I might be a werewolf)!
This is the first trimmer I’ve ever used. Since I’ve also never shaved with an electric razor, using this tool was a completely new experience for me.
I have to say, learning to use this tool was a pretty intuitive process and didn’t take long at all.
Philips Norelco Multigroomer Series 3000 Battery Life
One thing I really like about this trimmer is its long battery life. After almost a year, I recently charged it for the first time. I should note that for much of that time I was clean-shaven, but that’s still pretty impressive don’t you think?
Evidently, according to Phillips Norelco, the Series 3000 charges in just five minutes and holds a charge for an hour of use.

Final Thoughts
The Philips Norelco Multigroomer Series 3000, while perhaps a little intimidating at first, is a quality grooming tool that I’d recommend to men who want an easy, no-nonsense way to maintain their beard or touch up their hair between trips to the barbershop.
If you’re looking for something with even more premium features than the 3000 series, check out Phillips’ site for several other options. However, I think that for the vast majority of guys, this trimmer is more than sufficient for their grooming needs.

Works great ‘except for’ trying to separate part 8 – the longer comb – from the cutting base. The instructions that came with the trimmer didn’t help.
So it will only work to cut longish hair and thus most of the other pieces are useless. What to do?
Oh, I’ve tried pushing down – or forward – on the comb part and then snapping it but that doesn’t work.

My Norelco Multigroom 3000 just arrived, it all looks good, but for some reason Part 8 does not separate from the cutting part which is the heart of the system, so it appears that if I can solve how to separate the large comb from the cutting base, I will only be able to trim long hair – not my beard and getting a shorter cut on my hair.
I’ve tried to finagle it, once I’ve returned it to the shaver, by pressing ahead on the comb part and snapping that out of the shaver but the cutting base always came with it.
What to do?
