You can’t mention Kit Harington without talking about Game of Thrones (GoT). For nearly the past decade it’s launched and defined his career as an actor.
But this article is not about his acting chops or whether or not the King of the North ends up on the Iron Throne. (spoiler, he doesn’t)
Let’s talk about Jon Snow’s Kit Harington’s style and how you can dress like the honorable hero.
Before we start, who is Kit Harington?
Who is Kit Harington?
Kit Harington is best known for playing the role of Jon Snow on the massively successful TV series and cultural phenomenon that is Game of Thrones.
He’s 32 years old and currently lives in New York City with his wife (and former GoT co-star) Rose Leslie.
It seems as if Kit is ready to move on from playing such a brooding role in the heavy drama. As he told Harper’s Bazaar, “It’s a very heavy, heavy show, heavy role. So something which is a bit lighter, a bit funnier maybe.”
He’s now busy as ever with new projects that include recent voiceover work on How To Train Your Dragon, stage work on True West along with his gig as the face of Dolce & Gabbana’s men’s fragrance, The One.
Kit Harington’s Height
According to Google, Kit Harington stands at 5’8″ tall which puts him just 1″ under the average male height in the United States.
Just like Donald Glover, Kevin Hart and other celebrities that Brock has covered in his Style Breakdown series, Kit Harington still manages to dress well regardless of height.
It’s not always easy finding clothing that fits off the rack for shorter guys, but he does an incredible job dressing for someone who is on the shorter side, which is saying something because most shorter men wear clothes that are 2 to 3 sizes too big. I’m sure he has a fantastic stylist.
His Style
Although Jon Snow may know nothing, Kit Harington clearly knows a thing or two about style. Let’s break it down starting with his casual style.
Casual Looks
You’ll rarely see Kit Harington dressed in a smart casual aesthetic.
More often than not his everyday style is quite rakish — a bad boy, IDGAF kind of look.
The Bad Boy
Kit’s casual style mainly consists of dark wash skinny jeans paired with a scoop neck tee in neutral colors of blue, gray and black. For outerwear, you’ll find him wearing unstructured jackets like the vintage trucker jacket and yep, even the ‘harrington’ jacket.
Down low you’ll almost always spot him rocking black or brown chelsea boots. There’s no
It’s easy to appear sloppy with the pieces that comprise Kit’s casual uniform, but he’s abiding by the most important rule in menswear — nailing the fit. His pants break cleanly, shirts are form fitted to accentuate his physique while his outerwear creates a stylish silhouette.
Most importantly, he keeps it super simple from henleys and basic tees to well-fitted, cleanly draped sweaters. Ultimately, it doesn’t get more effortless than rocking a few basics, which Kit does exceptionally well.
And finally, though he may have recently kicked the habit thanks to #vapelife, you’ll often find him with a cigarette in hand to up the cool factor and bad boy persona.
Skinny Jeans Only
Speaking of skinny jeans, Kit has an affinity towards them it seems. You’d be hard pressed to find him without a pair of skinnies when it comes to his casual style.
Notice how he’ll either cuff his jeans or stack them, similar to the style move Kevin Hart likes to make. For colors, Harington sticks with tried and true dark wash denim and black for the most part.
He’s not a fan of bold logos at all and so he pairs his skinny jeans with solid block colors with the occasional striped shirt.
Taking a look at paparazzi photos of Kit, it’s clear that he’s nailed his casual style, but what about his formal style?
Formal Looks
Similar to Aziz Ansari, Donald Glover, and Kevin Hart, Kit Harington effortlessly transitions from casual style to red carpet ready like the best of them. I guess it doesn’t hurt to have a personal stylist.
Simple, Clean Tailoring
For the red carpet, Harington sticks with the tried and true neutral colors of dark navy, blues and grays. His event looks feature tailored suits and crisp white shirts that exude pure sophistication.
He deviated from the basic darks color palette while hosting Saturday Night Live earlier this year when he wore a much bolder tan suit with a black shirt underneath.
Not only does he get an A grade for color selection, but his suits fit flawlessly. His jackets drape nicely, buttoned with just the right amount of waist suppression and his trousers are streamlined with a generous taper towards the ankle.
For his shoes, he’s always got on black oxfords which are the perfect formal shoe for any man let alone the red carpet.
Dark Monochrome
Kit is classy in dark monochrome. Much like Jon Snow, Kit loves to wear “a lot of black” and “simple, block colors”. This is evident through his black tie attire at various red carpet events and show premieres.
Kit is at his best when he dresses tonally with dark solid colors. He’s mastered the black on black and dark monochrome aesthetic. Not only does the contrast work well for his lighter skin complexion, but it helps to streamline his look making him look taller than his 5’8″ frame would suggest.
Brand Partnerships
Alongside GoT co-star Emilia Clarke, Kit is the face of Dolce & Gabbana’s new fragrance The One and so naturally he has loads of clothing from the fashion label.
Heir to the Iron Throne, and now clean shaven, Kit Harington doesn’t care much for name brands. In an Esquire interview, Kit mentioned that “[he does] have an interest in fashion, though [he doesn’t] necessarily follow brands.”
This doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have brand partnerships. A few years ago he was the face of Jimmy Choo and so he wore a lot of black Jimmy Choo’s dress shoes.
At industry events he’ll often wear expensive watches like the Swiss made Jaeger LeCoultre Master Automatic watch which features an embedded sapphire crystal and black leather alligator patterned strap for an ultra classy look.
And mentioned earlier, being the face of Dolce & Gabbana, he’s often decked out in D&G formal attire. And I’ve a feeling we’ll be seeing more sleek and sharp looks from Kit in the future.
How to Dress Like Kit Harington
For casual style, embrace the staples like a basic t-shirt and dark wash jeans. Make sure that your clothing is form fitted, maybe even a little tight, especially those skinny jeans. And then pick up 2, 3, heck 5 pairs of chelsea boots in different colorways.
While suiting up, stick with a monochrome aesthetic. Black, navy and grey is fair game. Then find yourself a tailor you can trust and you’ll be red carpet ready like the best of them.
Finally, get yourself a fur coat…oh wait, you can leave the furs at home.
