Flint and Tinderโs Flannel-Lined Waxed Trucker Jacket has exploded in popularity, thanks in part to its appearance in the hit show Last of Us. The question is, โIs it as good as it looks?โ

When trailers of Last of Us, a much-anticipated show based on a classic video game, aired, the folks at Huckberry were surprised to see the main character wearing their best-selling Waxed Trucker Jacket.
The Flint and Tinder Flannel-Lined Waxed Trucker Jacket has long been a crowd favorite, but interest has understandably soared since it landed in the limelight.
Iโve been wearing this jacket for a few months now, as has The Modest Man founder, Brock McGoff. While weโve already covered the Huckberry brand in detail, this review focuses on the Waxed Trucker.
Waxed Trucker Fit
I ordered a size XS and itโs pretty much a perfect fit. Iโm 5โ6โ and around 140 pounds. While it fits great on me if I was any bigger it would be too tight.
The length, including the sleeve length, is ideal for me. Like a jean jacket, the body of this garment should reach to about the midpoint of your pants fly.
Brock, the founder of The Modest Man (pictured below), ordered the same size (and the same color). We are about the same height but have a somewhat different builds.
About the waxed trucker, Brock wrote, โitโs slightly roomy over a t-shirt but fits well over a sweater. The sleeves are a couple of inches too long (just like every jacket for me). I could cuff them or get them shortened.โ
The jacketโs waist can be adjusted slightly by means of button side tabs which can cinch tighter by about an inch or so on each side.
Overall, both Brock and I have found that the jacket fits quite well. Iโd say that the fit is true-to-size.
Huckberry Waxed Trucker Jacket Features
The Waxed Trucker is one of Huckberryโs top sellers for a reason, itโs an incredibly well-made, versatile jacket. This is also made in America as itโs cut and sewn in Los Angles, California.
Its simple design doesnโt incorporate a lot of bells and whistles, and quite honestly, I appreciate that.
Waxed Cotton
This jacket is waxed on both sides of the quality sailcloth. That means that it is especially weather-resistant.
Waxed cotton has an interesting texture that takes some getting used to. At first, I was worried that the wax would rub off unto furniture, car seats, and possibly other clothing.
While it does sometimes leave some slight waxy feeling on my hands, besides that I havenโt noticed wax residue left behind. (If you have heated car seats, donโt turn them on while wearing this jacket. It will probably melt the wax).
After months of occasional wear, I am beginning to notice spots where the wax is beginning to wear off โ the elbows mostly. Eventually, Iโm sure Iโm going to have to re-wax my jacket.
Lining
Huckberry offers several different lining options for this item.
While they used to offer an Unlined Trucker, it seems that they are out of stock, and the last review was in 2019. Iโm not certain if this lightweight option has been discontinued.
My jacket is flannel-lined. Flannel is traditionally a wool fabric, but these days is often cotton or synthetic. My jacketโs label tells me that the lining is 100% polyester.
On occasion, Iโve felt kind of sticky while wearing this jacket in warmer weather and I wonder if thatโs because of the polyester lining trapping in moisture. Frankly, Iโm surprised that a jacket of this quality has a poly lining.
Then again, I might be wrong. Since pretty much every other feature of this jacket is spot-on, Iโll give Huckberry the benefit of the doubt on this one.
Finally, thereโs a wool-lined option.
Since I already have Huckberryโs Hudson Jacket which is a heavier weight than the trucker, I decided to go with a flannel lining for warmer weather wear. If I were buying the trucker as a cold-weather jacket, Iโd definitely go for the wool lining.
Color Options
Huckberry has made this jacket in an array of colors. The trick is finding the color you want in stock in your size.
When I placed my order for a sample jacket for review my preferred colors โCoalโ and โDark Navyโ were out of stock in XS. I ended up with my third choice, โHavanna.โ
My jacket is a rich tobacco brown color with a subtle, striped flannel lining.
Collar
The collar flips up for added protection against the elements. It stands easily due because of the wax.
Pockets
The waxed trucker has two vertical pockets on the side and a breast pocket up top on the left. The side pockets donโt have buttons but the breast pocket does.
Inside the jacket, thereโs a patch pocket sewn onto the flannel lining.
This pocket is the perfect cozy place to stash your phone when itโs nasty outside.
Buttons
Flint and Tinderโs custom antique finish metal buttons perfectly match the rest of the jacket.
However, I have noticed that there are a lot of loose threads coming out of the buttonholes (and at seams) after a few months of wear. Itโs not a huge deal as I can just cut them off with my pocketknife, but it is annoying.

My Recommendation
Iโd recommend ordering your regular size in jackets but to size up if you want to layer a chunky sweater underneath.
I find that the flannel-lined version isnโt that warm. It passes master at, say, 45ยฐF and above, but any colder and Iโm reaching for a warmer jacket. I imagine that the Wool-Lined Waxed Trucker would be substantially warmer.
While itโs likely that most people that buy this jacket wonโt be wearing it for actual work (like killing zombies, for instance), in my opinion, itโs ready for the task.
Iโve worn the Flint and Tinder Hudson Waxed Jacket when I was hauling firewood, and it kept me warm and protected.
Yes, it earned a few โbattle scarsโ in the process, but thatโs part of the charm of waxed jackets. Iโm sure that my Trucker would be just as hard-working as my Hudson Jacket.
Iโd recommend Huckberry Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker Jacket for guys looking to level up their casual style. If you love denim jackets, this piece of outerwear is a great alternative.
If Huckberry doesnโt have your size, donโt be alarmed and check their site often, they restock regularly.

Great sales report… You forgot to mention one thing… its UNCLEANABLE… NO dry cleaning… NO washing….. Spot cleaning only. Oher wise it ruined. A great jacket, but fails miserably at any long term life.
Yeah, you’re right. It’s pretty difficult to clean. It’s meant to show its battle scars. Just check out the side-by-side comparison photo at the bottom of this page: https://huckberry.com/store/flint-and-tinder/category/p/55166-flannel-lined-waxed-trucker-jacket . If you really wanted to I suppose you could strip of the wax, clean it, and then reapply the wax.
