Everything Men Under 40 Need to Know About Low Testosterone and How to Fix It

Do you find yourself unusually tired, demotivated, or underperforming at your work? If you are a man under 40, low testosterone might be the culprit behind your low stamina. A plummeting testosterone level is manifested as burnout or fatigue in men. Testosterone is the main male hormone that regulates emotions, sex drive, sense of wellness, or the overall energy levels. To your surprise, this health issue is more common than you think among men under 40! It not just affects your energy level but also your muscle mass, your emotional state, or your self-confidence as a whole. But despair not if you feel you may be suffering from this hormonal imbalance; the key to deal with this problem is to detect it early before the negative impacts start to set in. Here are some ways you can detect, identify the underlying cause, and remedy a low level of testosterone to feel better again.

The Diagnosis

In a healthy male adult the normal level of testosterone is above 300 ng/dL. A morning blood test is a standard lab test to make a clinical diagnosis. A level below 300 and correlating clinical signs and symptoms are helpful in making an accurate diagnosis.

Persistent Fatigue and Low Energy Levels

If you find yourself exhausted from even small work that was an easy task for you earlier, it could signal a dip in your testosterone levels. It’s better to get your hormone level checked instead of worrying that you have low stamina despite having a good 6-8 hours of nighttime sleep.

Low Sex Drive or reduced Libido

Another issue that many men who have this hormonal imbalance face and feel too embarrassed to express openly is the sudden drop in their sex drive. Reduced libido may be one of the earliest and most stressful signs of low testosterone. This symptom should alert you to a potential male hormonal imbalance.

Maintaining Muscle Mass is an Uphill Battle now

No amount of effort at the gym is proving fruitful; your muscle mass seems to be stuck, or even if there is any change, then it’s extremely slow. All your hard work goes in vain to the point of frustration; this gradual increase in muscle mass that is disproportionate to your input can be attributed to decreased levels of testosterone.

Increased Abdominal Fat or Circumference

Increased abdominal circumference is one of the most obvious signs of hormonal shift in both males and females. If you are a male in your midlife and you suddenly seem to have outgrown your jeans from around your waist, then it’s your sign to go for a testosterone blood test. Low testosterone is highly suspected if there haven’t been any other lifestyle or diet changes in your life lately.

Mood Swings, Hyper-irritability, or Slight Depression

Testosterone regulates your emotions and mental health. A drop in testosterone can leave you annoyed or irritated over minor inconveniences and even depressed without any obvious reason.

Brain Fog or Cognitive Decline

Do you feel you have become more forgetful? Like, finding yourself standing in front of the closet thinking why you came there in the first place? Or does fixing your own breakfast early in the morning seem like a daunting task as you keep forgetting the subsequent steps that go into making your mug of coffee? If such has been the case and your memory and attention have witnessed a clear decline recently, then low testosterone is to be blamed.

Sleep Disturbances or Insomnia

Biologically, sleep and testosterone are co-dependent in a bidirectional manner. Good quality sleep boosts testosterone, and vice versa. If either is low, the other gets disturbed, and you feel the ripple effects.

Feeling Demotivated

If you feel no desire to be productive or pursue your career goals, hobbies, or ambitions anymore, this shift in degree of motivation can be attributed to a reduced level of testosterone. If in doubt, get it checked.

Other Health Issues

The hormone shift also becomes evident in the way your beard growth becomes slow or your hair starts to fall or thin. Or it can be seen as a prominent steep in your athletic performance, lowered endurance, or heightened soreness that isn’t willing to go. A major health problem among men is how low testosterone negatively affects erectile dysfunction, which makes their sex life frustrating.

Loss of Confidence or Self-Esteem

With so many psychological, biological, and physical shifts happening owing to the decreased testosterone, a man may lose his self-confidence and self-esteem.

Common Causes of Low Testosterone in Men

Being overweight, having nutritional deficiencies, chronic stress, an inactive lifestyle, high alcohol consumption, or excessive smoking can be the major causes contributing to the low concentrations of testosterone in the bloodstream in the lab report.

Ways to Boost Testosterone Safely and Naturally

With the awareness of signs and symptoms and a correct diagnosis, the focus now should be on fixing the problem. There are some easy and natural ways to boost the testosterone level: improving sleep quality, strength training, eating healthy and balanced meals, and losing extra weight if your BMI is high, that will bring your vitality back. But in some scenarios medication  must accompany lifestyle adjustments for best results.

Medical Option: Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)

TRT is a highly recommended solution to the dwindling levels of testosterone in the blood, but this treatment should never be opted for without a doctor’s advice, not self-referred.

When to See a Doctor

If the symptoms are impacting your daily routine and productivity or efficiency level, then you must take an immediate appointment with a doctor and get yourself assessed.

Final Thoughts

Low testosterone is a very common medical issue among men in midlife. This comes as a nightmare as it disrupts their fitness routine, their sleep cycle, their physical appearance , their motivation level, their emotional well-being and their sex life. These effects diminish a man’s self-esteem and self-confidence. Their work life and relationships get negatively influenced by the decline in testosterone. But with a proper knowledge of the causes, signs and a timely diagnosis this condition is reversible and they can get the lost confidence, stamina and  spark back using either organic or medical solution or a combination of both.
