15 Deeds You Should Never Forgive in a Relationship

Healthy relationships are the ones that are abounding with mutual respect, trust, and emotional safety. Another thing that most people overlook is the act of forgiveness. The latter carries immensely beneficial ramifications for a relationship and strengthens it far more thoroughly than some might think. While forgiveness is an admirable trait, sometimes utilizing it is moot and ill-advised. It happens when a partner in a relationship commits a deed so depraved, so detrimental, that the prospect of forgiving them becomes impossible. That is because these dark deeds serve to effectively curtail the trust that exists within the relationship and once it is gone, then so is the integrity of the relationship’s foundation. These actions, which serve to so egregiously damage a relationship, can never be forgiven. Read on and learn about them right here.

Repeated Betrayal of Trust

Everyone makes mistakes once in a while, but when a partner keeps on betraying his partner repeatedly, this reflects his immoral and weak character. It might be by lying, breaking promises, gossiping, or engaging in physical or emotional infidelity, but the point remains that such instances of betrayal shouldn’t be tolerated and certainly should not be forgiven.

Physical Abuse

Pushing, hitting, intimidating, or any other sort of physical abuse in a relationship is absolutely unjustified and violates the trust that exists within it, rendering it unsafe and pernicious. A partner who goes to this depraved length should immediately be dropped without any hope of forgiveness.

Emotional Manipulation

Manipulation might not be immediately noticeable but it can be intensely detrimental to a relationship. A manipulative partner gaslights, guilt-trips, and distorts facts to fit their narrative frequently. Such a person is deplorable, to say the least and shouldn’t be forgiven.

Gaslighting

Gaslighting happens when a partner consciously makes his significant other doubt their memory and perception regarding reality and the authenticity of events that transpired. It can damage and destroy their confidence and emotional stability if this vile act is allowed to continue unrestrained. That is why this is an act that shouldn’t be forgiven.

Persistent Disrespect

A relationship can only be called healthy if both partners remain mutually respectful towards each other. A person who actively denigrates his partner, makes them feel small, humiliates them, corrects them in public, and dismisses them coldly holds no respect or reverence for them. Such a person who deliberately derogates his partner is not worthy of forgiveness.

Chronic Infidelity

If a person chooses to indulge in repeated and ongoing cheating in their relationship, then it is reflective of a deeper problem with their character. It shows that they aren’t capable of forming long-term, strong commitment within their relationship. As such, they are not worthy of forgiveness.

Isolation from Friends and Family

A partner who tries to isolate his significant other from their friends and family members shows manipulative and mala fide intent. It shows that they want to control them and make them dependent on themselves only, effectively draining them of all emotional energy and resilience. Such manipulative partners should not be forgiven, no matter how many times they apologize.

Controlling Behavior

It is a clear sign that a person’s behavior is reprehensible if they try to control everything in their partner’s life, be it about what they choose to wear, who they interact with, where they go, or how they spend their own money. This tendency violates major boundaries and shows that the person who indulges in this controlling behavior doesn’t have their partner’s best interests at heart.

Lack of Accountability

It becomes virtually impossible to resolve conflicts and attain mutual growth in a relationship if one partner obstinately refuses to take accountability for their actions. They act all petulant and blame others for their mistakes, reflecting the deep immaturity that exists within their personality.

Public Humiliation

It is a sign that a person lacks the basic courtesy, respect, and empathy when they openly mock, belittle, and embarrass their partner in public. This is a troubling propensity and shows that this person isn’t worthy of forgiveness and should be dropped from the partner role as soon as possible.

Financial Exploitation

A person who exploits their partner for financial gain, hides debt, and remains chronically dependent on them for all expenses creates egregiously high levels of stress in the relationship. It even leads to the relationship’s disintegration eventually. Such a person shouldn’t be forgiven even if they come around or profess to have overcome their problematic tendencies.

Consistent Neglect

A person who repeatedly ignores his partner and doesn’t afford them the emotional and physical attention they deserve is certainly not a scrupulous person. Such a person effectively erodes the foundation of their relationship till there is nothing left because the latter can’t endure consistent neglect for long.

Threats and Intimidation

A person who isn’t fit to be in a romantic relationship usually resorts to using threats of leaving or harming themselves or their partner to get the upper hand in the relationship. It is a manipulative tactic that they employ to get their partner to accede to their demands. Such emotional manipulation and abuse should never be tolerated in a relationship and one who engages in it should never be forgiven.

Violating Personal Boundaries

A person who ignores clear and vividly delineated boundaries, be they emotional, personal, or physical, reflects a lack of respect for their partner’s independence. This tendency shows that they aren’t a reliable person and will gradually drain all trust from their relationship.

Lack of Genuine Remorse

Perhaps the biggest red flag of them all is when a person refuses to apologize sincerely to their partner. They persist in this pernicious act and take no palpable steps to change themselves after hurting their partner. These harmful patterns are likely to linger on in a relationship where accountability and efforts to improve the relationship are rare to nonexistent.

Final Thoughts

Forgiveness can be a significant part of relationships, but it shouldn’t be given at the cost of sacrificing one’s safety, mental health, and self-dignity. Relationships can only be strengthened when emotional and physical boundaries, as well as deal breakers, are clearly and emphatically expressed and implemented. A relationship can only become respectful, emotionally mature, and safe when these things are ensured and accorded unimpeded within it.
