Viscata is a brand from Barcelona that makes espadrilles. I tried a few of their products to help you decide if they’re worth buying.

Quick Take

Here’s an overview of my thoughts on Viscata’s shoes.

Pros

  • They look great and are versatile
  • They’re high-quality, handmade, and sustainable
  • They’re comfortable
  • They’re fairly priced

Cons

  • Sizing options are somewhat limited (wide options and more half sizes would be helpful)
  • More color options would be nice for some of the shoes

About Viscata

Viscata was founded in Barcelona, Spain with the goal of providing high-quality espadrilles to the world.

They offer a large selection of shoes for both men and women.

Crafting authentic Spanish espadrilles is truly an art form. At Viscata, we use traditional artisan techniques with an attention to detail that is so rare these days. All of our shoes are handmade in a boutique workshop in Spain where craftsmen still hand wrap the all-natural jute and sew each shoe with care.

from Viscata’s about page

Their shoes are handmade from natural materials, and they have a large focus on sustainability (they even have a shoe recycling program) which you can read about on their site.

The Products I Tried

I tried a few pairs of shoes from Viscata: the Sitges, Pol, and Capsasal. Here’s an overview of each of them.

Sitges

The Sitges is a classic, casual slip-on shoe. Like all espadrilles, they have a rope sole.

The canvas is breathable, and they’re easy to slip on and off.

Viscata Sitges

These shoes can be worn for any casual occasion. They’re great for walks and going to the beach. The Sitges has become my quintessential spring and summer shoe.

As a bonus, pretty much every color they offer is versatile.

Pol

Whereas the Sitges is a classic slip-on shoe, the Pol is like its lace-up brother.

Viscata Pol

Something that surprised me about Pols was just how comfortable they are. The insole is very soft and smooth.

Also, just like the Sitges, the Pol is a very versatile shoe. I do wish they came in beige, though.

Capsasal

The Capsasal is a suede shoe which differentiates it from the Sitges and Pol.

Viscata Capsasal

Just like the other two, it’s a comfortable and versatile shoe, but it also has a unique advantage which is that it can be dressed up more than the others.

It’s not a formal shoe, but it can be elevated more than the others because it’s suede.

What I Like

All three of the shoes I tried are high-quality and comfortable. Across the board, Viscata is a great brand!

Their shoes are stylish, versatile, and unique. Espadrilles are popular in Europe, but they definitely stand out more in the United States. I consider that to be a good thing.

It’s important to note that the Sitges, Pol and Capsasal are all too low cut to wear with socks (including no-show socks), and they feel great without them.

Room for Improvement

A very small complaint I have is about color options. The Sitges has a handful of colors to choose from, but it’d be nice to see a couple more options for the Pol and Capsasal. For the Pol, I’d love a beige pair. For the Capsasal, a brown pair would be awesome.

More important than the colors is the sizing. Luckily, I’ve found pairs that fit well enough to wear, but it would be helpful if Viscata offered more in-between sizes and a wide option. As you can see with the Capsasal, it doesn’t fit quite right.

I may be able to find some sort of heel insert that makes them a more snug fit. Leave a comment if you have any suggestions!
