The majority of marriages don’t break down instantly or without warning. Rather, it is the culmination of small, apparently insignificant oversights and problems that make spouses drift away from each other. The warning signs do appear, but whether inadvertently or deliberately, a couple ignores them. This costs them dearly, as their relationship implodes eventually. The husband especially starts displaying certain behaviors that signal his loss of interest and investment in the marriage. It shows his perturbance and disregard and shows that he has emotionally checked out from the marriage. Read on and learn about these things that signal when a man has lost interest in his marriage.

Spending More Time at Work

When a man starts encountering scorn, criticism, and disregard at home, he begins to lose interest. He starts spending extra long hours at home, takes extra shifts, and does everything to stay out of the same home his wife resides in. He wants a break from the constant stress and pressure and uses his work as a viable excuse.

Always Being Busy on His Phone

A husband starts deflecting and ignoring the glaring problems around him, rooted in his relationship with his wife, by always scrolling on his phone. He might be messaging someone, watching movies, playing games, and whatever else, all in the name of ignoring his wife. He pursues this path simply to distract himself from the stress and lack of engagement in his marriage.

Hanging Out with Friends

Friends are the balm that soothes a man’s wounds when he is grieving or stressed out from the egregious conditions at home. They are understanding and afford him the satisfaction, understanding, and tolerance that he is sorely lacking at home. This is his way of escaping the pressures and predicaments that he is constantly bombarded with at home and it reveals his intent to renege on his marriage and all of its commitments.

Spending Long Periods in Another Room

When a man starts spending extended periods of time in his man cave, garage, dining room, or any other room instead of being with his wife, then that’s worrisome for the marriage as a whole. A man only chooses to do this when he is fed up with the constant nagging, criticism, and stinging remarks. It is his way of saying that he wants space, one that might just become permanent if things persist as they are.

Having New Hobbies That Exclude His Wife

A wife should really be perturbed when her man develops new hobbies out of nowhere. What’s even more troubling is when he makes an effort to exclude her from them. It may be collecting figurines, video games, or stamps, or any other eccentric pursuit. The point is, he wants to be alone, to process his pain and ruminate over the future of his relationship.

Staying Out Late

Things really get worrying when a man starts staying out late without a shred of explanation. He doesn’t divulge the details as to where or whom he was with. This shows that the marriage is slowly progressing towards decimation and should worry a wife tremendously.

Spending More Time Talking to Others

When a man starts talking more with others and doesn’t extend the same time or effort towards communication with his wife, then that is cause for concern. It shows that his priorities and attention are at an end and he is trying to derive comfort and rapport with anyone else besides his wife. The intimacy and connection have fizzled out in the marriage.

Staying Silent for Long Spells

When a man prioritizes silence over conversing with you, then that is certainly a pressing cause for concern. His silence and unwillingness to engage in discussions signal that he has lost all faith and passion for the relationship. He would rather stay silent than talk because he has withdrawn completely from you and the marriage as a whole.

Burying Himself in Entertainment

A husband who feels like his marriage is at an end will start preoccupying himself with different modes of entertainment, be it movies, video games, sports, and so forth. Entertainment affords him the distraction that he acutely desires to escape the stress he experiences in his marriage. It becomes the shield that he uses to deflect all efforts at engaging and reintegrating into his relationship with her.

Taking on Projects

He might start working on projects suddenly, like fixing things around the house, setting up his man cave, renovating the roof, fixing the gutters, running long errands, and so on. He does all of this to eschew being present because for him the connection has already lost its edge in the marriage.

Investing More on His Appearance

When a man starts investing greater amounts of money and time in his appearance, then this shows that he is looking to emancipate from his marriage. He is working on finding an alternative because he feels like the present relationship has run its course. He wants to survive the eventual breakout and that is why he starts looking for connections outside of his marriage.

Using Alcohol to Relax

When a man starts leaning heavily on alcohol or other substances to unwind and escape the pressures of his life, then this shows he is done. He is all over the whole coping mechanism thing and wants to find happiness and solace at the bottom of a bottle. It’s as depressing as it is self-destructive and is a tendency that eventually swallows the marriage, leading to its destruction.

Always being Irritated and in a Bad Mood at Home

When a man displays heightened levels of irritability and bad moods at home but remains fine outside, then it shows his discontent with the marriage. He is done with his home because he has begun associating it with stress. He wants comfort and his marriage isn’t providing it anymore, so he grows petulant and belligerent while he remains there.

Putting More Effort Towards Engagements with Others

When the projects for others, like friends, family members, kids, colleagues, and more, begin to take priority over his wife’s, then this shows a change in his emotional stability. He has grown distant from her and no longer considers her important. This is a devastating realization for the wife as it finally dawns on her that her man has moved to a point of no return for their marriage.

Spending Time Fantasizing

When a man starts fantasizing and dreaming about an ideal life, alternative scenarios, or what-if developments, then you know he’s dissatisfied with what he currently has. He wants a future that is different, one that’s bereft of his wife and current engagements. It shows emotional detachment of the highest order.

Final Thoughts

A husband begins to withdraw from his marriage after the accumulation of various small instances of indifference, disrespect, and criticism from his wife. When he zones out and withdraws, then it is a sign that the marriage has run its course and is headed for disaster. Only by being more intimate, intentional, caring, and considerate can a wife hope to avert this dreadful scenario.
