Lumin unboxing 3

Lumin is the new face of premium skincare for men, offering full spectrum solutions to whatever you have going on with your skin. I’ve tried and tested most of their range of products, so today I’m going to give you my honest opinion about which of their items are worth it (and which ones aren’t).

Quick Take

Lumin offers high end skincare with attractive branding and flexible purchasing options. They’re not the most affordable option, but a good portion of their products work really well and smell great.

Pros

  • High quality formulations and ingredient
  • Overall branding looks great
  • Smells nice
  • Paraben and sulfate free
  • Lots of vegan and cruelty-free options
  • Flexible purchasing options

Cons

  • No acne-fighting ingredients available
  • Not the most affordable option
  • Added fragrances may irritate some guys’ skin

About Lumin

Lumin is the next generation of men’s skin and hair care products, with a refined look and feel across the board. They’re not cheap, but the quality of their ingredients and formulations is top notch.

Take a look at their range of natural ingredients here, and you can either pick out skin care solutions a la carte or purchase them as targeted sets.

Lumin unboxing 2

I’ve tested and compared seven of Lumin’s most popular products to other options in each category. In the following sections, I’ll give you my perspectives and opinions on which ones are worth buying, and which ones you might want to take a pass on.

No-Nonsense Charcoal Cleanser

Cleansers are the first step for a lot of men’s skincare routines. The best ones will scrub away dirt and oil, leaving your face feeling clean, refreshed, and ready for moisturizing.

Overall, Lumin’s No-Nonsense Charcoal Cleanser is great. A little dab of it goes a long way, making for a satisfying deep clean.

It’s not super gentle — the granules really do a strong job of exfoliating dirt, grime, and dead skin cells. You’ll want to follow it up with a moisturizer to protect your skin.

Dark Circle Defense

Lumin’s Dark Circle Defense under eye cream is one of their most popular, award-winning products. And while lots of guys seem to be big fans of it, I didn’t notice any results — but full disclosure, that might just be me. I’ve never really had any success with under eye creams.

If you have had success with under eye creams, this one’s really quite nice. It’s kind of thick and sticky, making it easy to apply precisely where you need it. And the light lemony smell is very pleasant.

So yeah, it’s not my first choice for where to spend my money, but your mileage may vary.

Keratin Recovery Shampoo

This Keratin Recovery Shampoo is one of my favorite shampoos I’ve tried recently. Lumin really did it up right with both this and the body wash featured in the next section.

If you have sensitive skin and hair, this shampoo is perfect for you. It’s a mild shampoo with a low lather, offering a gentle cleanse that’s particularly good for guys with long hair. A pleasant, natural scent from tea tree and peppermint oils rounds it out. Highly recommended.

Clarifying Body Wash

Just like the shampoo reviewed above, Lumin’s Clarifying Body Wash is a mild and pleasant product. It’s a low lather body wash that’s great for guys with sensitive skin — but make sure that you use it with a loofah or scrubber to get the most mileage out of it.

A combination of tea tree oil, jojoba oil, and aloe vera really make it stand out. It smells great, cleanses gently, and leaves your skin with a protective layer of moisturizer after you step out of the shower.

Calming Shave Cream

Of all Lumin’s products, I’m honestly most impressed by their Calming Shave Cream. In fact, it’s my go-to choice for shaving at this point.

Basically, this cream is easy to apply in a thin layer. It smells nice, feels nice, and allows for a smooth and clean shave with either an electric shaver or a cartridge razor (I tested it with several different shaving methods). And because it’s made with gentle and all-natural ingredients, it’ll work for just about any guy’s skin type.

Cooling Aftershave

So fair warning: I don’t really use aftershave. That’s because I’ve never had any trouble with redness, irritation, or bumps after shaving. So from my first impressions, this isn’t one that I’d use regularly at the price it’s offered at.

But if you do have trouble with redness and irritation after shaving, this would be a really nice aftershave for you. It’s alcohol-free, so it doesn’t have the burn of regular aftershave. And its citrus and shea butter scent is really soft and enjoyable.

Anti-Wrinkle Serum

Aimed at repairing sun damage and premature signs of aging, Lumin’s Anti-Wrinkle Serum comes as a cool roll-on stick. It has a lot of Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and pomegranate extract — all proven to tone skin and prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging.

But after using it for about a month on my forehead, I didn’t notice a whole lot of improvement. So even though it’s nice and easy to apply, I just didn’t get much use out of it.

Compared to other products I’ve been impressed with, the lack of Retinol in this one is kind of a deal breaker. But that might be skin-specific too, so if you haven’t had success with Retinol products try this one out instead.

Final Verdict

Lumin has a really wide range of products for any guy’s skin type and needs, so not everything will work perfectly for every guy.

I’d recommend trying out one of their starter packs, or just picking a la carte for the ones that sound most promising to you. It may take a little trial and error, but once you find a product from Lumin that you like, you’ll probably keep using it for years.
