Why Women Are More Concerned With Fashion Choices in Dating Than Men

There is something that is immediately apparent when you peruse through the modern dating conversations that the internet is replete with: women devote a significantly larger portion of their time deliberating over what to wear on dates than men do. They fret about their outfits, catastrophize over not finding and integrating the right accessories into their appearance, and experience intense anxiety over whether they are dressing too formally or casually for a date. Fashion and style, for women, have become a larger part of their dating lives than for men. Read on and learn about the reasons right here.

Dating Has Become a Performance

For many women, modern dating has become a lot like a performance, one where they need to excel and appear flawless by any means necessary. Most of them find first dates especially daunting, as they feel like every single detail of their outfit will be evaluated. They buckle under this pressure yet keep on going. They don’t understand that most men want them to show up and actually make an effort in trying to connect with them. They mistakenly believe that all they will be judged for is their outfit and appearance and, as a result, impart copious amounts of effort and time towards ensuring they are impeccable.

Social Media Raised the Stakes

Social media has served to greatly alter and change dating expectations in modern times, and it has impacted women significantly. Women especially are exposed to meticulously curated images of style, romance, and beauty. Because of this, many women feel driven and pressured to look more embellished, put together, and polished so that they can match the ersatz notion of beauty that has been proliferated and normalized by online platforms. This is the reason why so many modern dates fail: because instead of seeking actual chemistry, women are pursuing a hollow notion of beauty and perfection, one that renders them incapable of actually investing in emotionally connecting with their dates.

Men Often Notice Less Than Expected

When it comes to outfits, fashion, appearances, and style, women are far more likely to be engrossed in analysis and obsessing over them. On the other hand, many men tend to pay attention to more general and broader aspects like effort, overall appearance and presentation, and effort in dating. Because of this, the gap between what women fret and obsessed over and what men genuinely pay attention to has grown appallingly large

Fashion Anxiety Can Become a Distraction

What fashion has done in these current times is make people feel more anxious and insecure. It should make them feel more self-confident, but when too much energy and focus are expended on appearing good and ensuring one’s appearance is immaculate, then it only leads to anxiety and uncertainty. It becomes easier to forge that personality, humor, emotional connection, and conversation matter much more than attire and fashion ever can. Women don’t realize this and don’t understand that an outfit can’t guarantee success or failure for any date.

The Bottom Line

Fashion can be immensely fun, it can be expressive, and it can also enhance your confidence. But the thing with modern dating is that it has led many women to irrevocably subscribe to the notion that clothing matters far more than it actually does. The most promising and successful relationships don’t depend on two people wearing the perfect outfits; they happen when they actually form an emotionally strong connection and attain everlasting chemistry.
