Relationships end, and though it is unfortunate that the loving bond between two people comes to an end, it is still natural and completely plausible. However, contrary to what you might think, relationships rarely end with a display of emotional explosions, clamor, cheating, or intense drama. Most of the time, it happens silently, subtly, and even imperceptibly. Two people, who were once so attuned to each other and in love, quietly start drifting apart. Once that happens, they start displaying certain behaviors that reveal the impending destruction of their relationship. Read on and learn about these behaviors right here.

No More Arguing

A clear sign of a couple having lost all interest in their relationship is when they stop arguing altogether. The presence of conflict means that there is something to fix in a relationship that demands attention. But the absence of arguments shows that both partners are no longer invested in the relationship and don’t care what happens to it.

Abnormal Silence

When a relationship grows silent, then it is a sign that things have taken a turn for the worse. Sure, silent spells occur in every relationship, but when it becomes the chief defining characteristic and doesn’t feel peaceful at all, then it is a sign that the relationship has turned hollow and cold.

Living Parallel Lives

Another indicator of a relationship headed for destruction is when the partners in it start living parallel and separate lives. They go about their business, adhere to schedules, make separate plans, and keep separate priorities even when they are living together. For them, togetherness and companionship have lost all value.

Affection has Vanished

When a couple loses all affection for each other and starts treating each other with wild coldness, apathy, and indifference, then it is a sign that their relationship has run its course. Affection and warmth are what keep a relationship alive and thriving, while their absence leaves it devastated and weak.

No More Eye Contact

Where once a couple never could get enough of each other and their very eye contact conveyed more of their feelings than words ever could, the loss of this gesture spells extreme trouble for the relationship. When a couple no longer looks at each other while they talk, then it shows their emotional connection has been severed.

Everything is Transactional

No longer do these couples talk about anything romantic or concerning them as a couple. Now, all of their conversations revolve around household chores, plans, the kids, bills, schedules, and so on. This transactional shift in tone within the relationship shows that it has been drained of all connection and cohesion.

No Longer Sharing Good News

Another indicator of a couple having lost all interest in their relationship is when they stop sharing news about their achievements with each other. They don’t get excited together or express joy or have shared moments of laughter, further reinforcing the perception that their relationship has grown weaker.

Criticism Replaces Curiosity

When two partners stop trying to understand each other or come to grips with each other’s opinions, quirks, and flaws but are quick to criticize, dismiss, and judge each other, then it means their relationship has virtually ended. All that remains is for them to realize it as well.

No More Jealousy

It is a matter of intense concern for both partners when some potential threat to the relationship arises. However, for a relationship that is almost about to end, these threats no longer register or are perceived as a danger at all. That is because both partners have become emotionally detached from each other and aren’t interested in saving the relationship any longer.

No More Emotional Presence

It shows when a relationship has been drained of its emotional connection and investment when both partners check out emotionally. They will be present physically but their minds will be elsewhere. They will scroll through their phones, work on their hobbies, and do anything to avoid each other.

No More Future Planning

The couple that no longer sees a future where the two of them are together is definitely ready to call it quits. Their future plans, be it for vacationing, construction, moving, and so on, don’t involve each other. They have lost all faith in a future where they would grow old together.

No Longer Trying to Impress Each Other

When a couple no longer tries to put in the effort to impress each other, then you know that their marriage is on the rocks. They no longer dress well, strive to make themselves fit, or do anything for the sake of bolstering their attraction in each other’s eyes.

Quiet Resentment

These couples choose to remain quiet and keep all the things that concern them within their hearts. They no longer communicate their anger to each other and let the resentment simmer within their breasts till it becomes far too much for them to bear. This unresolved bitterness is one of the reasons why so many relationships end up shattering.

Fantasizing

These couples start imagining a life where they are no longer bound by societal ties that connect them to each other. They don’t do this out of anger; rather, they do it out of relief. Independence starts feeling pretty tempting to them and they give into it instead of entertaining the very notion of reconciliation.

Staying Together out of Habit

These couples choose to stay together not out of choice, but rather out of habit and familiarity. The love is gone from their relationship, and they are sticking by each other for the sake of the kids, shared history, financial vulnerabilities, and fear.

Final Thoughts

It isn’t conflict that destroys relationships but rather indifference that is the main culprit. When two people start treating each other as if they were strangers and indifference and coldness become the norm, then their relationship is all but finished. The only way to ensure that this doesn’t happen is to remain consistent with each other and keep extending small, endearing gestures of love and attention, which are invaluable in resolving any resentment that might be lingering within the hearts of a couple.
