Your Marriage Isn’t “Fine”, So Do These 15 Things Before It All Crumbles

Updated on December 12, 2025 by TMM Staff · Lifestyle

People love to say everything feels “fine” even when the truth sits like a knot in the chest. You two might share a home, a bed, and a Netflix account… but go to sleep feeling miles apart. It creeps in when you stop talking about anything real, when you shrug off small chances to care, when you assume tomorrow will magically feel better.

So before everything falls apart, save your marriage by doing these things that will put the pieces back together.

Life throws plenty at both of you. Instead of guessing what they need, ask them what would help tomorrow feel a little lighter. Maybe they need you to grab coffee in the morning or take something off their plate before the day gets away from them. When someone asks what could help, it shows they’re paying attention.

Those simple moments tell your partner that you want to stand beside them in real, everyday life. You’re showing that their stress matters to you. And you might even realize that small adjustments open up more room for good stuff between you two.

Say What You Appreciate About Your Life Together

You two built something, maybe a family, maybe memories stacked in every corner of your home. Point out what you like about that. Tell them you’re glad to wake up next to them or that you love having a partner who understands your weird sense of humor.

People start to drift when appreciation goes silent. Using your voice keeps love alive. Even quick, simple words help both of you remember that your time together means something beyond bills and chores.

Everyone gets used to regular habits. But doing the laundry, packing lunches, or locking up before bed still deserve a thank-you. When someone feels taken for granted, things get rough fast. Little thanks remind them their efforts make a difference.

Don’t wait for special occasions and look for the everyday stuff and say it out loud. That kind of acknowledgment eases tension and adds warmth without a single grand move.

Ask What New Thing They’d Like to Try

Invite them to something completely different other than your daily routine. Maybe a date idea, a new food spot, or even a different way to spend Sunday mornings. Let their curiosity lead for once.

When you explore something new together, you two get stories, laughter, and a reminder that this partnership still has adventure left in the tank. The spark stays alive when both of you stay curious.

Sometimes you’re driving or scrolling or eating lunch, and you remember something sweet about them. Tell them when that happens. Send a text or say it when you walk through the door.

Those moments remind them they don’t disappear from your mind when you’re apart. Knowing someone thinks of you when you’re not around feels like a warm hand on the back, steady and loving, even on an ordinary Tuesday.

Talk About Something You Both Look Forward To

Give yourselves something bright in the future, something more fun than deadlines and errands. Maybe it’s a weekend away or finally cooking that recipe you bookmarked months ago.

Shared anticipation brings energy back into a marriage. When you both feel excitement about the same thing, you stop acting like two separate worlds and start acting like a team again, facing forward with smiles.

Ask What Made Their Day a Little Better

Don’t only ask what went wrong. Instead,  ask what lifted their mood, even for a moment. Maybe a coworker cracked a joke or the weather felt perfect on the way home. Those details matter.

You learn more about what brings them joy. Then you can add more of that into your time together. Plus, talking about good parts of the day turns the evening into a softer place to land after the world has pushed at them.

Tell Them Something You’ve Learned From Them

Your partner teaches you things without even trying, like how to fix the leaky faucet, how to take care of the kids, or just how to make your morning coffee taste better. Let them know you noticed.

It feels amazing to hear that your presence changed someone for the better. When you share what you learned, you show you value their strengths, and you honor what they bring into your life.

Remind Them of How Strong They Are

Sometimes the person you love forgets their own resilience. Point it out when you see it. Say, “You handle so much, and I admire how you keep moving.” Those words can become fuel.

Cheering them on helps them feel less alone in their battles. You become a supporter rather than a critic. That encouragement can rebuild trust faster than any lecture or fix-it plan ever could.

Share Good News With Them First

Got a win today? Let them be the first to hear it. Treat them like your person, the one who gets the inside scoop before anyone else.

When you choose them first, they feel like they matter in your story. That closeness helps both of you remember that life feels better when you celebrate together, not separately.

Tell Them Why You Respect Them

Respect matters even more than love some days. Tell them what you admire, maybe their work ethic, their kindness, or the way they show up for people. Say it while looking right at them.

Respect feels powerful because it’s easy to lose. When someone hears that you see their character and not just their flaws, they relax and trust the space between you two again.

Ask What They’re Excited About

Excitement brings life back into tired hearts. Ask what’s lighting them up lately. It might be something small, like a new show or a package arriving tomorrow. Let them talk about it and listen as it matters.

Sharing excitement helps you tune into each other’s interests. When you show enthusiasm too, they’ll feel seen, supported, and more likely to share their world openly with you.

Bring Up a Moment That Made You Grateful for Them

Think back to a time they came through for you, a scare at the hospital, a rough family visit, a breakdown on the freeway. Bring that memory up and tell them how much it meant.

Those stories remind both of you that you’ve stood shoulder-to-shoulder through storms. Gratitude keeps love steady because it highlights the history that keeps the two of you connected, even during shaky days.

Tell Them Something You Enjoy Doing With Them

Say what feels fun when you’re together, movie nights, long drives, laughing over breakfast. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Joy hides in normal moments more than anywhere else.

When you name what you enjoy, you’re saying, “I like you. I like us.” That message keeps intimacy alive without pressure or drama. It helps each of you crave more of those moments again.

Notice Something They Did Well

Spot the wins, big or small, and mention them. Maybe they handled a hard phone call like a champ or cooked dinner exactly how you like it. Praise can turn an average evening into a warm one.

People thrive when they feel recognized. When you point out what they did well, you build confidence and appreciation at the same time. That right there strengthens the ground under your marriage before any cracks spread.
