Sometimes, when a friendship shifts into a one-sided romantic relationship, it’s not always obvious. The shift is subtle, filled with mixed signals, unsaid expectations, and nonverbal cues that scream their interest. Unless you are observant enough to catch these signals earlier, you may not know how to respond or whether you want to advance in this relationship. Here are 15 subtle cues they may drop towards you to express their interest in you and that you mean more than a friend to them.

Increased Attention

One way to know that they really see you as someone more than a friend is that they start giving you more attention. You are not just an option for them, but a priority. They want to spend more time with you.

Frequent Communication

When someone has fallen for you, they will time and again prove that you are on their mind all day long. This they do by dropping texts casually, or calling just to check how you are doing, or deliberately finding excuses to stay in touch with you constantly.

Remembering Small Details

They remember even the smallest details about you. You may have casually mentioned your favorite ice cream flavor, and they surprise you by bringing it for you. They surprise you by being the first person to wish you on your birthday, promotions, or even any small moments that matter to you, which shows they care about every aspect of your life.

Intentional Physical Proximity Or Touches

They may intentionally pick the spot nearest to you to sit or stand because they like to be in your presence. They may lean in to hear you better or lightly touch your arm or shoulder as you converse to show their interest; these nonverbal cues reveal they want something more than friendship from you.

Prioritizing You in Their Plans

When someone wants to make you feel special, they start spending quality time with you. If they call off their other plans just to be with you, it clearly shows they have developed feelings for you beyond conventional friendship. They are usually rescheduling their day to plan a hangout with you, as they see you as a priority.

Talking About “We”

You are included in all their dreams and plans for the future. They envision a future with you in it, and even their regular day-to-day conversations are centered around you, and they use “we” over “me” in most instances.

Emotional Intimacy

When someone wants to take things forward, they start fostering trust in your heart for them. They open up to you about their deepest fears and vulnerabilities. They share all their thoughts and dreams with you, hoping you would reciprocate by showing the same level of trust.

Playful Flirtation

They start dropping hints in their jokes and tone that they like you. They lightly tease you or flirt with you to show their affection towards you. The ball is in your court now; it’s up to you whether you want to pick up on the cues or ignore them. They have conveyed their feelings on their part.

Mild Jealousy (In A Healthy Way)

They have become a little protective of you, not in a controlling way, but rather in a healthy way. They become a bit sad or uneasy when they see you talk with someone else or even when you mention your fondness for someone else.

Introducing You to Close People

When someone sees you as a significant other, they start allowing you into most personal spaces or their circle. They make you meet their friends, family, or coworkers, even showing you off to their circle. All their friends are familiar with your name, as they mention you a lot in their conversations.

Seeking Your Opinion and Input

They value you not just for your presence, but they also trust your thoughts and decision-making. They seek your opinion on all matters and respect your answer and even implement your advice where possible, subtly showing their fondness for you.

Showing Care or Protection Towards You

They show genuine care for you and notice even slight shifts in your mood, and they ensure to uplift your mood as much as they can.  They check in if you don’t show up to see if you’re okay.

Social Media Clues

Whenever you open your social media account, numerous notifications pop up, all with their name in them. They may tag you in more posts, may like your old pictures or posts, or even comment more on your recent posts now. This increased engagement shows they are always thinking about you.

Telling Body Language

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; they show their interest in you by emulating your tone, holding eye contact, or mirroring your gestures. They try to face you as you talk to show they are attentively listening to you because you matter to them.

Testing the Waters for “More”

They may casually ask you to discover how you feel about them; they will ask how you feel about your interactions or dates.

Final Thoughts

When someone has developed feelings of love for you, they will unconsciously start dropping hints for you to pick up on. They start feeling and behaving in completely different ways when you are around; they may start finding excuses to stay in touch or talk with you more often. Their energy and aura send a clear message: they see you as someone more than a friend. They see you as a soulmate!
