Sometimes we are so in love with someone that we start bending over backward for them. In our naivety, we start overextending ourselves to the point of annoyance for the other person. And when we get a cold response in return, it leaves you wondering, Where did I go wrong? I was just being a nice person? But this is just half the truth; the other person may have felt suffocated by your constant presence, and hence, they reacted in that certain aloof way.  Here are 15 nice things people do that are actually annoying.

Offering Unsolicited Advice

In your efforts and desire to want the best for someone, you start crossing the line sometimes. Like maybe someone does not like uncalled-for advice, but you still offer your piece of advice, thinking it could help them, but they perceive it as you pestering them with suggestions they never asked for.

Being Over-Friendly

Some people are not comfortable around people who instantly become very friendly. To them, real connections develop gradually, not in a first meeting, so they find your friendliness a bit artificial and annoying.

Over-Apologizing

To you, saying sorry may be a sign of good etiquette and politeness, but people seem to find it a diffidence and weakness in your character. When you’re always constantly apologetic over things that are not even your fault, people get irritated over time.

Keeping A Constant Check

If you are sending out multiple messages a day to someone, saying you pinged them to just quickly check in. After some time, people get tired of it and start seeing it as constant surveillance, not support.

Gifting Too Frequently

Sometimes you may be giving too often and too generously, out of love, but this puts the other person at ease, as they may fail to fathom your intentions or even feel obligated to return your favors, further adding to their stress.

Too Much Optimism

It’s totally fine to look on the brighter side of things, but if you are doing that every time someone comes to you with a genuine problem, they may feel unheard and neglected as you lecture them on seeing the positive side of things while they are internally struggling.

Downplaying Your Success

You may want to be seen as someone humble, but if downplaying your accomplishments and refusing to accept any compliments has become your second nature, then that’s a problem. At some point, people may start finding it awkward.

Being Too Enthusiastic To Help

Occasionally, lending someone a hand is a kind act of love, but if you are constantly trying to rescue someone by running errands for them while they have not even asked for help, it may come off as intruding, and they may even start feeling the emotional burden of your excessive help, which they are unable to return.

Offering Uncalled Physical Comfort

If you rush to hug someone as they cry or pat someone’s shoulder when you feel they need motivation, you may be doing it out of goodwill. Physical touch, however, is not received as something acceptable by everyone unless they have consciously asked for it.

Oversharing Your Kind Acts

If you are always telling your acts of kindness to everyone, people may see that as showing off and get irritated by your self-praise. They may even feel they aren’t doing enough.

Accepting Apologies Too Early

You are genuinely kind and forgiving at heart, and when someone says sorry to you, you accept their apology without keeping past score. This easy nature puts you at a disadvantage, as the other person doesn’t change their hurtful behavior and starts taking your apology acceptance for granted.

Being Conflict-Avoidant

If you play nice even under unbearable circumstances because you do not want to disrupt peace, you are sure to lose your calm someday when your tolerance threshold is crossed. And things turn too bitter for everyone then.

Being Available

If you are there for everyone all the time, people may start assuming your existence, your help, and your emotions come for free. They stop respecting your boundaries (and things become too emotionally painful for you sometimes) because you never respected them in the first place.

Praising Without Reason

People get annoyed when you keep offering praises and compliments to them; at some point they start seeing your words as shallow and meaningless. Actual praise should be occasional so it maintains its impact.

Always to the Rescue

You may have the urge to help your loved ones out of their troubles, like doing everything for them. This may seem appealing to you, but slowly it robs them of their ability to grow responsible and prevents them from learning things themselves.

Final Thoughts

Being kind, present, reliable, helpful, and responsible are extremely valuable traits to possess, but if they come at the cost of someone’s free will and personal space, that is when they become problematic. In order to make the best use of your positive traits, value and respect your energy, time, and effort first, and you will get the same in return. At the end of the day, kindness should not feel heavy, either for you or for the people you care about.
