Cheating is hard, I mean, really, really hard on a person. You feel like you loved someone to the bones, loved to an extent that you felt it in your bones. That is why it utterly devastates you when this person whom you cherished and loved so profoundly cheats on. It feels like your heart has shattered into a million pieces, and the prospects for the future start looking pretty bleak. You wonder, alone and depressed, about what your life is going to be like. You even start asking yourself whether this was just a misunderstanding, a misconception compounded by the hollow apologies being uttered from the cheater in the relationship. Should you give in to desperation? Should you hide away from the world? Should you close your heart to the world? Or, should you give them another chance? These are all questions that plague your mind in that moment, but they are complete and utter nonsense. The only respectful and proper thing to do is ditch those losers and move on with your life.
Now, it might seem hard, but if you follow these steps, you are sure to leave these cheaters behind and keep your respect intact at the same time.
Acceptance Comes First

First things first, you need to accept that this has happened. The partner that you so loved has betrayed your trust and cheated. You need to remember that this wasn’t your fault, no matter how much inane nonsense the other person spews about you not being present for them, emotionally, physically, and so on. These are all just excuses. Once you accept this, then you are ready to move forward.
Feel Everything and Then Let it Go

You are sure to experience a range of emotions after being cheated on. You will be angry, you will be depressed, and there will be the occasional poignant periods of disbelief as well. Allow yourself to experience them all. Give yourself time to process these dark emotions. Once you have done so, expunge them from your mind. The person who caused you such grief isn’t worth it, and neither are these feelings.
Cut off All Contact

They might call you, bombard you with texts, and try anything in their power to contact you. Cut it off, all of it. Become a resolute, unmoving stone, where nothing strikes you and nothing gets through. Cutting them out of your life is imperative if you want to recapture any semblance of peace in your life.
Stalking their Social Media is a No-No

Stop and think about it, would scrolling through their social media feed serve any purpose? Will it alleviate the pain? No, it will only serve to complicate matters by opening a window to the past, a past where you were happy with the cheater concerned. So, stop that and abandon any ideas you have about this particular pursuit.
Accept that You Survived

You are not the injured party or the guy who got cheated on. You are the survivor who managed to escape a hollow and mendacious relationship that was teeming with affectation of love. You are the one who managed to emerge stronger on the other side, and this is the narrative that you should stick to. It will imbue you with the courage and resolve needed to forget those who betrayed you.
Heal with your Family and Friends

Family members and close friends are the one constant in your life who will support you in any condition. They will be your rock during these tumultuous times. Lean on them, confide in them, and even grieve with them. They won’t let you down and will assist you in overcoming your feelings of mortification and depression.
Focus on Your Self-Care

You don’t have to sit around and mope after being cheated on. This is a terrific chance to get up, get moving, and work on yourself. Go to the gym, run, play video games, take a trip, hang out with friends. Do anything that enhances your self-care; you deserve it after the ordeal you have been through.
Rediscover Your Passions

Remember what used to make you feel alive and vibrant? Was it collecting figurines, playing cards, watching anime, or whatever else you can remember? Now is the time to rediscover those passions and engage them rigorously. They will help you forget the pain of the breakup.
Circumvent the Whole Revenge Shtick

You don’t have to immediately go out into the dating wild and find some wild, untamed, arbitrary hookup to make your ex jealous. Frankly, this is petty and beneath you and serves no purpose. Instead, focus on yourself and start feeling good about your life again. You don’t need validation from the cheaters anymore, so it is better to forget trying to let envy get in between you and them again.
Reflect on the Past

Notice how it’s reflect and not ruminate. That is because you shouldn’t probe too deeply into the past. Merely reflect on the choices, mistakes, and emotional setbacks that you encountered during the relationship and take lessons from them. They will serve as cautionary factors and red flags to avoid in your next one.
You Don’t Need Closure from Them

The cheaters should be forgotten and buried in the past. There is no need for you to seek any kind of closure from them. They knew what they were doing, and they still did it. You don’t need any explanations, long apologies, or any such encounters with them. They suck, and that is the truth, period.
Convert Your Pain into Purpose

Heartbreak is a consequence of cheating, but it doesn’t mean that you should acquiesce and give in to it. Take the requisite steps for converting this heartbreak into energy, energy that will make life productive. You can use this heartbreak as a motivation for starting something new, like writing that story/screenplay you always wanted, starting a business like you wanted, and chasing any other aspiration that you had suspended for the marriage.
You Don’t have to Compare Yourself to the “New” Guy

The cheaters cheated with the new guy, and there is no need to obsess over him. Maybe he was better than you, maybe he wasn’t. The point is, you don’t need to waste your precious time worrying about him or comparing yourself to him in any aspect. He is as beneath you as the person who cheated on you is. So, forget them both.
Your Self-Esteem is Important

Focus on going through all the motions, no matter how small, for regaining your self-esteem. Vent by crying, shouting, and any other means that you see fit, if it means that you will be able to smile once again. With each day that you get through, you get better. This is evidence of your recovery and that you are finally regaining your lost power.
Change Your Definition of Love

You have been given a rare opportunity to redefine what love truly means to you. Is it loyalty, respect, or honesty that will be the determining factors in love for you from now on? This is something that you need to ruminate over and gain answers that satisfy you. Give yourself the time and introspection that this crucial task demands of you.
Don’t Reenter a Relationship

Don’t rush love and take your sweet time before you enter a new relationship. Your emotions are still raw, and you are undergoing the process of healing. Any serious relationship at this point is bound to mess up your chances of recovering from the cheating debacle. Go casual for a while and only think about reentering the relationship game once you have fully recovered.
Learn to Forgive Yourself

No matter what we tell you, we are certain that you must have placed some blame for the cheater’s actions upon yourself. This is injurious to your sanity and peace of mind. Free yourself from this burden and forgive yourself. It is integral that you do so.
You are the Prize

The cheater lost something that was far more precious than what they desecrated the relationship for, and that was “You”. You were the prize in the relationship, and your worth was unlimited. You need to realize this and accept that it was they who lost something immensely precious while you emerged as the victor.
Final Thoughts

Cheating is a heinous phenomenon, and it is quite difficult to move on from it. But you can, rather, you need to take all possible steps to move on. You are worth more than anything else, and even if this door has closed, many new ones are waiting for you. So, don’t dampen your spirits and forget the negative feelings that you are experiencing. You will get through this and things will get better down the road, but only if you let them and strive to do so.
