I recently discovered a company called Shortees that makes t-shirts designed specifically to fit men 5’8″ and under. Josh over at ShortShrifted.com actually did a review on these shirts back in 2010, but I had never actually bought any for myself.
A few weeks ago, I got in touch with Seth Levinsky, the founder of Shortees. He is a cool guy and offered to send me a free shirt. I asked for a medium Original Black Tee, and it arrived a few days later. Needless to say, I tried it on immediately.
It’s a great feeling when something just fits. Even if it’s just a t-shirt. This black Shortees shirt was the perfect length (I asked for the 25″ instead of the longer 26.5″). The sleeves weren’t too long or too short (or too tight). The collar fit nicely around my neck, and the shirt was very comfortable overall.
I have two small issues with Shortees. First, as Josh mentioned in his review, the designs are limited and pretty generic. This is why I went with a plain black shirt. You can never have too many nice, plain black or white t-shirts.
Seth is working on adding more design options, so hopefully this will be addressed soon.
My second issue – and this is very nit picky – is the width of the opening around the belly (or bottom) of the shirt. I’m on the slim side, so I like a shirt that’s a little more tapered toward the bottom.
In other words, I’d prefer the chest to be wider than the belly. This helps create that athletic ”V” look.
Of course, for the heftier guys, this isn’t a problem. It’s just a matter of personal preference. Maybe Seth will add an option for different cuts depending on body type.
Bottom line is, I think it’s awesome that there is someone out there making t-shirts specifically for us shorter gents, and I think we should support Shortees. The shirts are only $20. Go order one today!
